The underlying theme is that of relating Piemonte through an orchestrated symphony, a short road movie in which the journey is the pretext for a narration through images. The author, the Torino director Maurizio Bonino, presents an original and poetic vision of the region through a symbolic journey: the Orchestra Filarmonica ‘900 of Teatro Regio in Torino must reach the Piemonte capital. The journeys to the capital, led by the orchestra members, reveal the beauties and magic of the region to the sound of music. Through history, architecture and landscapes, the musicians will arrive at Teatro Regio, where the conductor Ezio Bosso will guide them towards a grand finale to thunderous applause. The main soundtrack of the work is the last movement of Sinfonia n°1 Oceans (Symphony no.1 Oceans) composed and directed by Maestro Ezio Bosso, with the new version given to Regione Piemonte for Piemonte Symphony.

Recently, Panorama, one of the two most-prominent Italian weekly magazines, ran a supplement entitled 'L'Italia che vince (Made in Piedmont: the winning Italy) in it's print edition (frustratingly not online!).
The supplement highlighted outstanding Piedmontese excellence and pointed to local companies with global reach and growing sales such as: Fiat Maserati, Pirelli, Ferrero (Nutella), Lavazza, Slow Food, Eataly, Ermenegildo Zegna, Loro Piana, Superga, Scarpe&Scarpe; the list went on with jewelry, musical instruments, biotechnology...

The Langhe Roero region of Piedmont is known for its delicious Alba White Truffle and the Barolo wine. In addition to the gastronomy this region has amazing landscapes marked by the vineyards hills. No wonder it's a UNESCO World Heritage area.

One of our contributors ("the Geek") is a regular reader of Fred Wilson's blog. Fred is a famous startup investor in NY who blogs about... well, techie things.
So it was with great surprise (and pleasure!) that he came a across this quote when Fred described his month-long holiday trip from Rome to Paris, "our major stops were Lake Como, Cote D’Azur, Provence, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Bordeaux, and Paris. Of those, I would say Provence and San Sebastian were probably my favourites. I also loved the Piedmont wine region in Italy (Alba)..."

Being a geek himself (and in investor in the company) Fred bookmarked all the 131 places he stopped at using Foursquare. His Piedmont stops are number 15 to 19.
"More than half of the land and volume of Italy's rice production is in Piedmont. The region holds the EU record, with a concentration of rice paddies..."
Now, that fact really surprised me.

In addition (they don't mention this) this courtyard provides natural lighting to walkway between the living area and the bedrooms and, in summer, a lovely breeze to cool the house.

Wine-Searcher is a very useful search engine lists millions of wines and prices from thousands of merchants around the world. You might use it to locate and purchase specific wines at the best available price.

Italy Magazine is a very stylish and informative site that I often recommend my guests to use in order to plan their visit to Piedmont. Their site has the feel of a high-end design magazine.
Their property listing is a good place to start for you to get a sense of choices of locations, kinds of houses and prices.

Google can be too sophisticated sometimes. One of my Australian friends sent me a link to this wonderful blog that ranks high when you search for properties in Piedmont from Down Under. Goole is short-changing its European users.
I was taken aback by the depth of Fleur Kinson's research into every--yes, every--region in Italy. She knows Italy better than I or any Italian person I know.
So, it is with some degree of pride that I quote from her analysis of Piedmont:
"Beautiful landscapes, great weather and world-beating gastronomy make Piedmont a northern Italian treasure trove. Visitor numbers keep rising, yet property here remains surprisingly affordable [...] In a sensible world, Piedmont would be among the Italian regions most popular with overseas buyers – up there with the likes of Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche. It has all the kinds of things foreign buyers usually favour: lyrical hilly countryside, pretty farmhouses set amidst vineyards, handsome and super-civilized towns, elegant lakesides and celestial peaks with great skiing. Piedmont has the attention of world media.
The New York Times has written a lengthy article on pros of buying a house in Piedmont as opposed to other neighbouring provinces.
"The southern Piedmont market is focused on the towns of Asti, Alba and Acqui Terme, which form a rough triangle about 50 miles southeast of Turin, with the Alps as a backdrop to the north. The list of wines produced in the Langhe and Monferrato regions of the province reads like a greatest hits of Italy: Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto. Many prospective buyers cross-shop in Tuscany, Umbria and Liguria, as well as the South of France, but, as Ms. Smith-Aichbichler said: “They look and see what they get for their money: not a lot. Langhe-Roero and Monferrato have been appointed by UNESCO as the first Vineyard Landscape of Italy in the Cultural World Heritage List!
"The vineyard landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato in Piedmont consist of a selection of five distinct wine growing areas and a castle, whose names evoke profound and ancient expertise in the relationship between man and his environment ... They offer panoramas of carefully cultivated hillsides, following ancient land divisions punctuated with buildings that lend structure to the visual space: hilltop villages, castles, Romanesque churches, farms, ciabots, cellars and storehouses ... [Piedmont] is outstanding for its harmony, and the balance between the aesthetic qualities of its landscapes, the architectural and historical diversity of the built elements associated with the wine production activities and an authentic and ancient art of winemaking."
